~ AUSTRALIA NEEDS YOUR OLD JERSEY SEMEN ~

Genomic Testing in Austalia has, up until now, been all about the cow with the black & white coat. So while the Dairy Industry has been talking flat out about the Brave New World that genomic testing will bring down upon us, the list of Jersey bulls collected and tested by industry totalled 332 (March 2010). This group of bulls provides the basis for Jersey genome proofs here in Australia and while you may think 332 is a large number ADHIS will not release Jersey genome data until the reference data set is increased to a level that will provide a reasonable reliability for any future Jersey genome ABV's.

You can give the whole process a damn good shove..and lets face it the people who care about the Jersey breed are the ones that will extract the digit and act fast. What we need is to add to the list of bulls below right now, how do we do that? Download the Bulls Wanted file below and then head out to your shed and find one or two straws of a bulls frozen semen that you are willing to donate to this cause. Next you contact the office on 039370 9105 to organise the delivery from your farm to the Dept Primary Industries Laboratory in Bundoora.
